We run guided freediving and spearfishing trips up and down the South Coast, from easy shore dives to current-swept boat trips. Each destination below is tagged with a recommended certification tier — see how the levels compare for what that tier actually requires across Molchanovs, AIDA, and SSI. Itineraries are typical — actual routes depend on tide, weather, and instructor availability.
West Vancouver
Whytecliff Park
BC's first marine protected area — boulder walls, sponge gardens, and the occasional six-gill shark in deeper water. Shore-accessible, no boat needed.
North Vancouver
Cates Park / Whyte Islet
A sheltered cove with an easy entry, close-in kelp cover, and calm conditions — a good spot for first open-water dives or a gear shakedown before a longer trip.
Victoria
Ogden Point Breakwater
The most-dived site in BC: a kilometre-long breakwater wall with wolf eels and seasonal six-gill sharks. Shallow sections suit Entry-level divers; charter days add nearby Gulf Islands wreck sites that expect Level 2.
Nanaimo
Snake Island / Gabriola Passage
Cold, current-fed water that draws some of the biggest marine life on the coast — giant Pacific octopus, lingcod, wolf eels. Strong currents mean these trips are timed to slack tide.
Sooke
Sooke coastline
The least crowded coastline on this list — rugged and exposed, and better suited to spearfishing than photography dives. Lingcod and rockfish are the target species.
